We cannot recommend any of the major Mexican retail banks – they all provide equally bad service.  The largest are Bancomer (owned by Spaniards) and Banamex (owned by City Bank.  They have far more branches than the others, therefore, more convenient.

Las Rosas, a favorite for discerning visitors to Ensenada for the past 15 years.  The hotel is an architectural masterpiece and chosen as the location for a major Hollywood film.  The hotel sits on a rocky point that juts out onto the Pacific.  All rooms with awesome ocean views starting at $100 per night., a very romantic bargain-bring a special partner.  Great food and service, check out the spa and eternity pool. Comparable rooms in California $300 per night.

HALIOTIS’ – 1763720 #179 Delante (address).  Sea food does not get any better than this. An Ensenada institution for locals.  Out of the tourist zone but easy to find, call for directions.  Abalone can still be ordered here.  Owners have been friends for 20 years.

SANOS STEAKHOUSE – 011 52 646 1745145, Steaks don’t get any better than this outside of Chicago or New York.  Pricey but worth it.  Ambiance, great service and an exceptional wine list.
Owner is Juan Hussong of the respected Hussong family, a savvy restaurateur. Just North of downtown Ensenada. Beautiful Garden seating or inside plushy and tasteful décor.

EL CID- 011 52 646 1781809 or 1783488, on Lopez Mateos #995, part of Hotel El Cid.  Mexican specialties by region.  I particularly like the chiles en nogada from Puebla.  Friendly waiters and a popular spot with locals.  Buy a 2 for one discount card and save a bunch on return trips.

EL REY SOL – 011 52 646 1781733 or 1782351, on Lopez Mateos #1000, a French restaurant with a 60 year history,  The Bitterlin family who’s mom Dona Pepita brought her recipes from France upon settling in Ensenada.  French pastries that are famous.  Great for breakfast,  lunch or dinner.  Another Ensenada institution.
